May 9, Travel Day 85

We had fun in Atlantic City.  We did see 4-5 other loop boats and did have some fun conversations with them!   Two of the loopers we had met on our first day looping and again in Annapolis (Waterview and Steels Aweigh). The other loopers were staying at Atlantic City another day due to high winds and rough seas on the Atlantic.  We opted to move forward since we were going to travel on the ICW, and avoid the Atlantic.  Our boat draft is 3’8″.  The ICW is known to be very shallow in spots along this section.  We did talk to a few other boaters who had successfully navigated this section.  Our plans included meeting up with our looper friends Susan And Theresa from “Masquerade”.  They completed their loop last month and are now living on the land.  They generously invited us to stay a few days at their beach home in New Jersey, complete with a dock for No Agenda.  We hope to navigate there tomorrow during high tide!

We traveled 5 hours and 9 minutes from Atlantic City to Conklin Island anchorage.  We experienced adequate depths, narrow channels and fairly calm water.  We did hear a SOS call on the Coast Guard Radio for a man overboard out in the Atlantic.  The call came from the passenger, he stated the Captain had fallen overboard and he had lost visual sight of him.  He did say that the man overboard had on a life jacket.  He also said he was able to turn the boat around and was searching for him.  How terrifying for everyone involved!  The Coast Guard got the coordinates and were on the way.  Prayers for a safe rescue!  This journey has certainly reinforced the fragility of life and how each choice we make has consequences.  May God Bless the man overboard and his family.
