We traveled 3 hours and 38 minutes, or 21 NM to Whitehall, NY. The town had a park with free dockage. We were traveling with 3 other boats, Chris and Laura on Miracle, Swen and Katja on Rykher, No Agenda, and Shelly and Chuck on Chaniel. We had some excitement in the locks! Our bow thruster decided to overheat in the lock making for some quick maneuvers by Captain Mike! In the second lock I accidentally dropped our hand held radio! It floated away and Shelly on Chaniel was able to scoop it up on a net! Fortunately it is still working!!
We walked around town and had dinner at a nice place called the Railyard Taproom!
Whitehall, NY is BIGFOOT country!! They report multiple sightings and even have a weekend BIGFOOT Festival in September!! We met a lady at the antique mall in town who is a true believer! She reported that when she was a little girl her father sent her to the spring to get water. He told her that if she saw a big hairy creature not to be alarmed ! He told her the Sasquatch was his friend and that he lived under a large pine tree that had been struck by lightening. She said she never saw the Sasquatch, but her father had many stories of interaction with him!!
