July 16, 17, Travel Days 123 and 124, Last of the Locks

We left our travel companions behind in Orillia!  We needed to get to Hindson Marina in Penetanguishene to meet some folks interested in doing the Great Loop in the fall, possibly on No Agenda!

Lock 43 was closed for water management due to heavy rainfall, this created a 2 hour delay in our travel plans!  We are rafted with 3 other boats in the picture below waiting for the lock to resume service.

Above: Swift Rapids.  This is the largest lock on the Trent Severn.  It lifts and lowers boats 14.3 meters in less than 8 minutes!

Below: The Big Chute Marine Railway, Lock 44.  This lock works on an inclined plane to carry boats in individual cradles over a change of height of about 60 feet.  It was first built in 1917!  SCARY!

We waited on the dock overnight for our LAST lock on the Trent Severn waterway !  What a relief!!  It let us out in a very swift and narrow channel!
