August 13, Travel Day 141, Charlevoix

We traveled 14.3 NM, 2 hours and 9 minutes from Petoskey to Charlevoix.  Lake Michigan was supposed to be much calmer this morning with one foot seas, we did take out and experienced 3 foot seas with the waves hitting us on the beam.  This makes for a very uncomfortable ride! Everything that was not secured was on the floor, even the coffee table turned over!   When we arrived at the inlet to Charlevoix it was quite a relief!  The inlet takes you from Lake Michigan into Lake Charlevoix, a small, calm interior lake.  The town is built around the lake shore and is quite charming and quaint.  Tomorrow we have tickets to go on the Mushroom House Tour!  A stone mason built 28 story book homes in Charlevoix.  Mike is pretty excited to see these!

The bridge opening and letting us into the safe harbor was a welcome sight!  The marina dock was next to the town park area with fountains and trout ponds.  It was really delightful.

Charlevoix is known for its 28 homes designed and built by self taught architect Earl Young.  We went on a tour of the homes. They were all unique, whimsical, storybook homes!  It was fun to see.

We met a group of local boaters who knew folks from Ste. Genevieve.  I’m always amazed at the Ste. Genevieve connection!!

We had dinner with fellow looper friends, Deb and Bill on “Still the One.”   They are a lot of fun,  he is a retired PA and she is a speech pathologist, so we had a lot to talk about!
