December 13-21, Key West

No vacation is complete without a couple Bloody Mary’s!

We had a great time visiting with Tom and Rox.  We went to a lot of Key West hot spots, Sloppy Joe’s, Irish Kevins, The Green Parrot Bar, Hog Fish, Hogs Breathe Saloon, Harpoon Harry’s, The Schooner Wharf, Two Friends Patio…We met some other boaters at Martin’s.  Mike Winkler from Trust Me is pictured here with Tom, Rox and Mike and Jody.

We did a lot of shopping, sight seeing , relaxing by pool and rented scooters one day.

Fort Zachary Taylor construction began in 1845.  It was used in the civil war and occupied by the Union army. The main role of the fort was  to serve as headquarters for the US Navy’s East Coast blockade squadron to deter Confederate ships from reaching and leaving ports.  No hostile action occurred at the fort.   Later it was used in the Spanish American War.  The cannons at the fort had a range of three miles!

Never know who you might meet in Key West!  Santa was off duty!

Roosters rule the roost in the Keys.  They are protected and have free range of the island.

We rode our bikes to Croissants De France Bakery…yummy!

The Boat House Restaurant and Bar pictured below..this was our top pick for dinner!  Also pictured below is Raven Cooper, a local Key West musician, she was so much fun to listen to, great entertainer.

A couple of big yachts pulled in and are docked across from No Agenda!

Nora Jo always wants to see the palm trees when they call!

Maybe we should have taken the bus to the store!  We were both overloaded on our bikes!!  Mike did some boat maintenance!  The days have been full with visitors and keeping things in order to allow for living in small quarters.  I have been trying to read more, finished “Horse”, by Geraldine Brooks, a great historical novel touching on injustice and of course horses! I’m working on Barbara Kingsolver’s Unsheltered.. just getting into it but have underlined lots of quotes.   This one especially touched me, the main character was thinking about her mother..”When someone mattered like that, you didn’t lose her at death.  You lost her as you kept living.”  Powerful truths!

Mary Lou sent me a reflection piece, “The point of traveling is not to arrive but to return home laden with pollen you shall work up into honey the mind feeds on.”  Lots to ponder!!!

Key West has been a great stop.  We will be here for Christmas and are expecting Scott and Ann to arrive later today to spend Christmas with us!!

Merry Christmas!
