June 5, Travel Day 98, Chambly Dock, Lock 9

We traveled 8 hours and 8 minutes or 53.8 NM to Chambly dock, south of Lock 9 on the Chambly Canal.  We also went through Canadian Customs!  We stayed on the free dock in St. Jean Sur Richelieu Harbor.

A short distance from Burlington we entered the Chambly Canal system.  We stopped at Canadian Customs.  This was a little nerve racking!  We had all of our paperwork in order and they let us pass without any complication.

We docked on the  floating dock pictured.  We had reservations for the canal ahead and a scheduled time to pass the lift bridge in the morning.  No Agenda and Red Rover were scheduled first though the canal.  The bridge and lock personnel traveled along the canal to be at the next lock.  These are very small locks!  100 foot long and about 20 feet wide!  Our two boats barely fit.  The lock master turns a manual crank to open and shut the lock doors.  It is really something to experience!

St. Jean was a quaint town.  The crew sent Katya and me to find a place for dinner!  After visiting a pub or two we had everyone meet us at Captain Pouf which was a fish and chips place.
