March 20, travel Day 60

We sneaked around Chris and Laura’s boat and left the anchorage about 8 am. We Headed to Georgetown Harbor Walk Marina.  It was a short day for travel, 2 hours and 29 minutes.  We stayed  one full day and night in Georgetown.  The town is quaint, historic, walkable and packed with great restaurants, museums and shops.  We took a trolley tour given by one of the local history enthusiasts and he really showed us the historic sites including the haunts and scandals!Georgetown is the third oldest city in the state of South Carolina and the county seat of Georgetown County, in the Lowcountry.

Homes were built from the 1730’s, many prominent folks lived here.  William Doyle Morgan, was the catalyst for Georgetown’s growth.  He helped get modern water and sewer, electric lights.  President George Washington stayed in Georgetown on his southern tour April 30, 1791.

The architecture of the homes included Victorian, Georgian and Federal.

Shrimp boats were docked near us, they were all named “Jenny”!

Below: No Agenda on the dock in Georgetown.

A new hotel is going up on the boardwalk.  This is a great family destination.  The food choices were excellent.  We had southern hospitality and cheese grits with everything!  Our favorite was a small cafe called SOCO.  It stood for southern cooking!  The okra, shrimp, oysters were a hit!  We also found a sweet shop and had to get clusters and pralines!  We had dinner at SOCO with 2 other looper couples.  It is really amazing the kindness and sense of community that happens with these like minded wanderers!  Bottom left is “Miracle”, bottom right is “Coconuts”(other looper boats)
