March 26, travel Day 62, carolina Beach State Park

The weather predictions were for storms on Sunday night into Monday morning.  We decided to dock at Carolina Beach State Park instead of anchoring out.  The park marina was very nice but we really had to watch the tides due to shallow water in the marina and channel.  Our depth requirement is 4 foot and we barely had 5 foot in the marina at low tide.  The storms came about 4:30 am with lighting, thunder, rain and hail.  It was good to be secure!

The park is on a small island, Carolina Beach.  The Parkside of the island is along the ICW.  It was beautiful with beaches along the ICW, wildlife including sea otters, biking and hiking trails.  This geographic area is the ONLY place in the world where the “Venus Fly Trap” grows indigenously.  It is a Felony to dig one up!  The Atlantic side of the island has a town, boardwalk and beach.

We hiked the trails two mornings and did see the Venus Fly Trap!

We rode bikes to the Atlantic side of the island and walked on the boardwalk, had dinner at “The Smoke House” roof top and enjoyed the beach.

This was a great stop, peaceful, restful, inexpensive!!

I love your blog! The history tour is amazing—I wish I was with you. This is definitely a trip of a lifetime. The blessings of friends and people you are meeting, loopers and non-loopers alike make you both very rich in friendship. That’s the best wealth ever. Hugs dear friends.
