March 6-10, Jeckyll Island, Georgia

We arrived at Jeckyll harbor Marina on March 6.  The facilities were great!  Our friends from Miracle and Long Gone 2 were at the marina and we had a great visit.  The Island is absolutely gorgeous with sprawling beaches to historic ruins.  A canopy of live oaks with draping moss trees line the streets and bike paths.   We biked the 22 miles of bike paths.  It is truly and inspiring place full of lavish beauty.

I was so excited to get to Jeckyll Island, not because of the beauty of the island, but because “THE HORSE GIRLS WERE COMING”!!

My wonderful girlfriends from Ste. Genevieve that I share so much with, riding, soul, adventure, came for a visit!!

It didn’t take the girls long to get to know the other loopers and we were invited to cocktails on Miracle…!

The girls arrived on Tuesday night and we had dinner at “The Wharf”.  The next morning Mike fixed a big breakfast on the boat and then we went out for a tour of the island by bike!

We met a woman at the Grand Hotel who knew our friend Holly from Ste. Genevieve!..Small world!

We biked from the Historic district to the Beach district and stopped at shops and beaches along the way.  We had a great lunch at Sunset Grille.  Dinner was at the Beach House.  They picked me up and after dinner I stayed over at their hotel for a long visit and slumber party!  We sat at the fire pit and had great fun and conversation.  I am so blessed to have friends that you can pick up where you left off, seamless, sharing tears and laughter!

Below: We went for an airboat ride in the marsh!

“Marsh is not swamp.  March is a space of light, where grass grows in water, and water flows into the sky.  Slow-moving creeks wander, carrying the orb of the sun with them to the sea, and long legged birds lift with unexpected grace–as though not built to fly-against the roar of a thousand snow geese”. from Delia Ownen’s, Where the Crawdads Sing.

A visit with the horse girls would not be complete without a beach horseback ride!!  It is always an adventure with them!!

It was hard to say goodbye to my besties!  We stayed another night on Jeckyll Island due to thunderstorms.  I was able to get a haircut and color!  (much needed!). We will leave in the morning and plan to anchor out if all goes well.
