October 25-29, 2022, Travel Days to date: 18

We left Chattanooga at daybreak

We spent the night at Goose Pond Marina on October 25, It was very windy and 3 deck hands helped us get in safely.  October 26 we went as far as Decatur, Alabama to the free dock.  It was too cold to ride our bikes to town so we had dinner on the boat.  Missed out on the Kentucky Bourbon Beer!  October 27 we anchored out in Pickwick Lake, Hog Hollow! (pictured above).  We grilled steaks and went to bed early.

Pictured above is the sunrising at the anchorage.  Next is Grand Harbor Resort and Marina on Pickwick Lake, beautiful facility.  Below we are entering the TomBigbee Waterway, this is a 234 mile long man made canal that runs from Yellow Creek Port near Pickwick Lake to Demopolis, Alabama.  The system features 10 lakes and 10 locks and dams that allow for a shorter navigational route from the interior United States to the Gulf of Mexico.  It took 12 years to build the tennessee-Tombigbee and it was completed in 1984.  This is a “favored” spot for “gator hunters”.

We arrived at Midway Marina in Fulton, Mississippi last evening, followed a parade of loopers, 8 in all.  We had dinner at the Marina restaurant “Guys Place” and sat with the captain of the 100 foot long boat pictured in the lock with us, “Freedom”.  We had a great dinner and conversation.  Below I am pictured with the marina courtesy truck!  (I think it belongs in our fleet!)  We went to a local diner this morning for breakfast,  Peppertown Cafe!!!  The food and service were great, quite a novelty, had biscuits with white and chocolate gravy!  Mike had sausage , eggs and biscuits, all yummy!  We planned on staying here at Midway Marina today due to predicted rain.  The weather would have been suitable but here we are!  Planning to leave in the morning and head towards Columbus, Mississippi.  The gulf is about 360 miles south of us.

I have been missing my Ste. Genevieve friends and family.  Please pray for my dear friend Jean Fisher.  She is recovering from a broken hip and is in rehab.  Jean we are all sending you great vibes , love and energy!!! Go girl!!
