October 4-October 8

My brother Tom, “Okie” joined us for the first leg of our journey.  Tom loves the river and was a great help with navigation, docking, anchoring and negotiating the locks.  He knew about half of the barge Captains!!

Mouth of the Meramec River

Lots of beautiful homes on the Missouri cliffs overlooking the Mississippi

No Agenda passing the Festus Boat Club!

First night of anchoring, sandbar called “Boston Bar”.  Good thing we brought our own drinks, no bar in sight!

Boston Bar is near the junction of the Ohio River and the Mississippi River

Entering the Kentucky Dam Lock

We are at Green Turtle Bay in Grand Rivers Kentucky from October 6, 2022 till October 9, 2022.  We love it here!  We had a sailboat here for years and were able to connect with some old friends.  Ann Matejcek kindly picked up Scott and crew from the airport.  Scott came down to pick up Okie.  We had pizza and beer and celebrated!  We saw Ann again for a great dinner at Popi’s in Benton, Kentucky.  It was so much fun reconnecting.  Ann is a nurse practitioner so we have so much to talk about!!!  We saw our old friend John Penney and Dr. Kim too.

At Green Turtle Bay we had time to ride bikes, enjoy the indoor pool and sauna, re stock groceries and give No Agenda a bath after her travels down the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee Rivers

HEY SOUL SISTERS,

Those of you who are my soul sisters know that I’m always reading nerdy medical articles.  So this one really caught my attention on the river.  “Laughing with Big Mama” by Sabrina N’Dioaye.  The gist of it was discovering the ‘wise guide’ within you.  The author credits a lot of her wisdom to her grandmother “Big Mama”, who influenced her life with joy despite her disabilities.  She challenges the reader to journal and ….here is the part that got me..”in the  process remind yourself that your stepping into a river: as you continue to grow and change, this river will grow and change with you.  Her questions to ponder were:

My Living teachers are….

My teachers on the other side are…

I receive meaning in my life when I….

This really touched home to me, with the loss of my Mom, Mike’s Dad in the past year and the recent loss of my brother Reno.  When I was doing laundry at Green Turtle Bay I met Rebecca. We were docked near one another and in our conversation learned that she and her husband are taking their boat to Florida and then returning home to Lee Summit, MO.  She and her husband were neighbors to my brother Reno who we just lost.  She gave me a heartfelt hug, it gave me goose bumps.  It is a wonderful small world!
