We traveled 34.2 nautical miles, 5 hours and 31 minutes to Tred Avon anchorage. From there we were a close dinghy ride into the town of Oxford, Maryland. Oxford is a small town, less than 700 people live there. In colonial times it was known for tobacco plantations but later in the 1800’s Oxford turned form Tobacco to Oysters. It became a working class Waterman’s town with 20 crab and oyster packing plants on the waterfront….now there are none! Now it is primarily a vacation destination and retirement village!
We took the dinghy over to “Capsize”, a local waterfront restaurant. It was the first day of the season for the restaurant. It was still a bit chilly here! We had fun and met some local folks who bought us all a beer!
We had a little excitement on the Chesapeake! The coast guard pulled us over! They were doing safety inspections. Luckily we passed with flying colors and they did not accept my bribe of a Coke or a Yahoo!!
